SPORTSRAGEOUS – History Channel’s “Vikings” might be about Ragnar Lothbrok and his adventures; one might not help but notice the women in his life including Lagertha played by Katheryn Winnick around the show returns with its second half of season four she is coming with a vengeance.
In the midseason finale, Lagertha was the stab in the chest during the failed siege of Paris for which even Ragnar lost to his traitor brother Rollo. As Bjorn was assisting his mother, he was also cursing his father for the failed raid and for his mother’s predicament. Showrunner Michael Hirst explained to TV Guide that Katheryn Winnick’s character is not yet bound to crossover Valhalla just yet as in the second half of season four will figure out a power struggle between her and Aslaug, played by Alyssa Sutherland.
“She’s also gone on this amazing female journey in which she’s gone from farmer’s wife [who’s] happily married with kids, to being betrayed, to being in an abusive relationship, to having power, to having power taken away from her by men, to having to fight her way back, to having to lose her baby again,” Hirst said. “She is the soul of the show and I need her.”
Hirst teased Entertainment Weekly that Lagertha will try to reclaim Kattegat away from Aslaug, who has ruled the kingdom since Ragnar, played by Travis Fimmel, went missing.
“She’s a huge part of the story going forward,” Hirst said of Earl Ingstad. “There’s something she does which is so unexpected, but when you think about it later, you think: ‘No, she had to do that. That is Lagertha.
For her part, Winnick narrated that there will be significant changes to her character’s storyline that will for sure excite viewers. The change that is coming will for sure dislodge the old Lagertha and will showcase a more “Viking” out of her as she describes in her interview with Starpulse.com.
“She has a big arc and you’ll see it more in the upcoming episodes,” the 38-year-old actress said of Lagertha. “There’s going to be a physical change for her, and as an actor, you cut off your ego and allow yourself to change. You’ll see her change physically, her clothes will change, and her status will change. It’s an exciting time.”
Aside from Winnick and her adventure, the second half of the show’s season four, which is set to air by July, will showcase a lot of twists including Ragnar’s closeness with Aslaug’s slave You played by Dianne Doan. Also, it will feature the rise of Ragnar’s son, Ivar the Boneless and Bjorn’s rise to becoming a successor to his father.
