Katheryn Winnick (born Katerena Anna Vinitska; December 17, 1977) is a Canadian actress. She is best known for her roles in Amusement (2008), Bones (2010), A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III (2012), Vikings (2013–present), and The Art of the Steal (2013).
Winnick was born in Etobicoke, Ontario and is of Ukrainian descent. She spoke Ukrainian as her first language and did not begin speaking English until she was eight years old. She began training in martial arts at age seven, and obtained her first black belt at 13. By age 21, she had started three martial arts schools.
Winnick has appeared in many films, including Stand Up Guys, Failure to Launch, Love and Other Drugs, and Killers. She has guest starred in numerous television shows, most notably House, The Glades, Bones, Law & Order, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, CSI, CSI: NY, CSI: Miami, Criminal Minds, Person of Interest, and Nikita. In her role on Bones, she portrays Hannah Burley, a war correspondent who had been posted to cover the war in Afghanistan and becomes a love interest for main character Seeley Booth.
Winnick starred in the comedy-drama film Cold Souls, which had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival 2009. In 2011, Winnick was cast in a guest role on The CW’s spy drama Nikita. In 2013, she starred in A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III and appeared in the comedy The Art of the Steal. She also joined History Channel’s Vikings, starring in the role of Lagertha, a legendary figure in Viking history.
Winnick’s role on HISTORY’s “Vikings” as Lagertha, a brave and formidable warrior, has earned her a nomination for ‘Best Supporting Actress’ in the 2015 Critics Choice Awards, a nomination in 2014 and 2015 for ‘Best Actress in a Drama Series’ in the Women’s Image Network Awards as well as in the 2014 Canadian Screen Awards in the category of ‘Best Performance by a Lead Actress’.
On the big screen, Winnick will appear in the highly anticipated sci-film action film, Geostorm, opposite Gerard Butler, Ed Harris, Andy Garcia and Abbie Cornish, which is set for release in 2017. Winnick has appeared in other films such as Stand Up Guys alongside Al Pacino, Christopher Walken and Alan Arkin; Love and Other Drugs with Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway and in the action comedy Killers, with Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl. In 2009, she appeared with Paul Giamatti, Emily Watson and David Strathairn in Cold Souls, which earned a nomination for “Best Ensemble Cast” at the Independent Spirit Awards.
Winnick has also enjoyed a successful TV career with a recurring role in Fox’s hit primetime TV Series “Bones” as well as notable roles on “House”, “Person of Interest”, “Criminal Minds”, “CSI” and “Law & Order”, to name a few.

Other career highlights include Edward Zwick’s Love & Other Drugs (2010), with Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway; the action comedy, Killers (2010) (in which she performed all her own stunts), with Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl; and had a much-talked-about recurring role as David Boreanaz’s love interest in the prime-time network TV series, Bones (2005).
